Dag Heward-Mills and the Urgency of the Great Commission

The final words of Jesus to His disciples were clear: “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” This Great Commission has not changed. It remains the standing order of the Church. But in many circles, it has been forgotten or replaced with more comfortable goals. Bishop Dag Heward-Mills has never allowed that to happen in his ministry. His life and calling have been shaped by the urgency of those final words.

From the early days of his ministry, Bishop Dag understood that evangelism was not just for the evangelist—it was for every believer, every church, every leader. He did not view the Great Commission as a special assignment for a few, but as a non-negotiable command for all. And because of that conviction, he has raised up a Church that moves, a ministry that reaches, and a network of pastors who are all soul winners in their own right.

The urgency with which he preaches, the way he travels, the way he mobilizes resources, and the way he structures his churches all flow from one conviction—that the world must hear about Jesus. That every nation must be touched. That time is short, and eternity is long.

Mobilizing the Church for Global Missions

Dag Heward-Mills has not only obeyed the call—he has trained others to obey it as well. Through his books, camps, and teachings, he has helped thousands of pastors and leaders understand that the mission field is not optional. It is the heartbeat of Christ. And when the Church aligns with His heart, it will begin to look outward, not inward.

He often teaches that there are three responses to the Great Commission: go, send, or disobey. Everyone in the Church must fall into one of those categories. His life’s work has been to reduce the number of disobedient Christians by training, sending, and empowering more and more laborers for the harvest.

The Healing Jesus Campaigns are a living testimony of this urgency. These are not entertainment events. They are massive efforts to take the gospel into places where it has not been heard. Entire cities are shaken, souls are saved, and churches are planted as a result. And behind it all is a team that has been trained with the same urgency that Bishop Dag carries every day.

The Great Commission remains the mission of the Church. And in Dag Heward-Mills, we see a man who has not only answered that call but has spent his life urging others to do the same.
